Recruitment and retention

The SWAC recommended VCU Police make improvements to officer recruitment. The following is an update on process improvements for officer recruitment.

Since January 2022, VCU Police has successfully hired a total of 19 pre-certified and new officers. Of this total, 78.9% of these officers come from historically underrepresented groups.
As of August 2022, VCU Police started recruiting for the 48th Academy class, which is scheduled to begin after VCU’s commencement ceremonies in May 2023.
